WISTAR at the Interreg NWE Annual Event 2025: Driving Green Transport in North-West Europe

On 16 December 2025, the WISTAR project was featured at the Interreg North-West Europe (NWE) Annual Event, held at the European Convention Center Luxembourg. The event, themed “Cooperating for lasting impact”, brought together projects and stakeholders from across the NWE region to showcase innovative solutions for sustainable and inclusive development.

Highlighting WISTAR’s vision for greener freight

WISTAR was presented in the track “NWE Projects Making a Difference” under Green Transport and Connectivity, showcasing the project’s approach to greener inland freight and logistics. The project demonstrates how inland waterways can reduce CO₂ emissions while enhancing rural-urban connectivity, supporting small rural businesses, and optimizing supply chains.

Through transnational cooperation across Germany, France, and Belgium, WISTAR explores innovative strategies for energy-efficient transport and the digital integration of logistics, aiming to make inland waterway transport a sustainable and practical alternative for regional freight.

Promoting collaboration and sustainable solutions

The event emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation in shaping smarter, greener transport solutions for North-West Europe. WISTAR’s participation highlighted both the impact of research-driven innovation and the potential for inland waterways to contribute to low-emission, resilient supply chains.

By connecting research, industry, and regional stakeholders, WISTAR continues to demonstrate how collaborative projects can advance sustainable transport, support rural economies, and drive the transition toward greener logistics.
