WISTAR Project Meeting in Duisburg

The WISTAR project team recently convened in Duisburg for a pivotal meeting, marking significant progress in their mission to promote sustainable inland waterway transport in North-West Europe. The two-day gathering on September 19-20, 2024, brought together partners from universities, innovation centers, IT developers, logistics associations, and inland waterway technology experts.

A highlight of the meeting was a technical visit showcasing innovative solutions aligned with WISTAR's goals. The team explored Kioske, a company specializing in automated vending machines, which offers potential for improving rural business operations through digital solutions. This technology aligns with WISTAR's aim to enhance operational processes for rural enterprises.

At the Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems (DST), the team visited two cutting-edge facilities:

1. The HaFoLa (Harbor and Transshipment Technologies Research Center) lab, which features a test hall replicating harbor topography, automated equipment, and a "Digital Port" living lab. This facility supports WISTAR's focus on simplified transshipment points and digital solutions for inland waterways.

2. The SANDRA (Simulator for Advanced Navigation Duisburg Research and Application) simulator, which is crucial for developing automated and energy-efficient inland navigation systems, directly supporting WISTAR's goal of sustainable waterway transport.

These visits provided valuable insights into technologies that can revolutionize rural business operations and inland waterway transport, perfectly aligning with WISTAR's vision for the North-West Europe region.
